The Lions Club of Downham Market was chartered in 1978. It's members wishing to help the less fortunate people within the Downham Market Area. Their aims were simple:
Fund Raising to help the less fortunate within the community and further afield.
And have fun and fellowship whist doing it.
The Downham Market Lions Club has continued to go from strength to strength. And after 40 years the same aims are still holding true.
The club is in Region 1, Zone A of District MD105EA, and is always looking for new members and will offer a warm welcome to all visitors.
At her first official Club Visit as District Governor Mandy Hawksley went to Downham Market Lions Club where she was able to present three Melvin Jones Fellowships to three members of the Club. Lion President Chris Moreton, Secretary Gerry Ryan and Treasurer John Fox have, between them, given in the region of 100 years of service to Lions Clubs International through the Downham Market Club.
The Melvin Jones Fellowship is one of the highest awards given to honour those who have served their community and is named in memory of Melvin Jones, the founder of Lions Clubs International.
